Peshawar: The Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has inaugurated the Azakhel Dry Port in Nowshera District today, according to new sources. He lauded Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed’s efforts in bringing this project to fruition.
Addressing the ceremony, PM Khan said that government is making effort to make railways into a profitable department after being in decline for so many years. He said that the ministry will sell and repurpose railway lands to cover the loses.
The project is developed with a cost of PKR 150 million and aims to boost business and trade in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Earlier, the Federal Minister for Railways Shiekh Rasheed also expressed hope that Pakistan Railways will become a profitable organization within the coming four years. He further remarked that the federal government has planned a mega project to strengthen and increase railway network in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

Minister Rasheed said that Peshawar-Jalalabad railway project will interlink Pakistan with Central Asian counties and will convert the province into a trade hub. The proposed railway track will run through Loi Shalman area of Khyber tribal districts and will cover the scenic landscape of the province and thus promote tourism.
The Railways Minister said that feasibility studies and PC-I of the project were being prepared at present and hinted that Afghanistan has expressed great interest in it. He also said the department is working to launch two new trains from Peshawar to Karachi to facilitate the route.

Furthermore, he said that the government has agreed to open the Nowshera-Dargai railway section to help promote tourism in Malakand, Swat, Dir, Chitral and Buner districts.
