Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Thursday stressed on the implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) to combat the spread of COVID-19 in the country, a news source reported.

To this effect, he presided a meeting in Islamabad to discuss the COVID-19 situation in the country. He reiterated that the country confronted the dual-threat of coronavirus and poverty. He emphasised that the government had to maintain a balance between these two threats and deal with the crisis. PM Khan also said that the government would facilitate all sectors and industries without endangering the lives of its people.

PM Khan said that the lockdown was not a complete solution for the COVID-19 crisis but an intervening step to slow down the spread. Special Assistant on Health Dr Zafar Mirza also attended the meeting and briefed the meeting on the COVID-19 statistics in the country, including confirmed cases, the proportional increase in cases, number of tests conducted so far, and geographical spread.
