Islamabad: Presiding over a federal cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that special persons must be facilitated in the development of Islamabad, according to a news source.
To further emphasise this, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry revealed that Khan had directed officials of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to make the capital a paragon of easy access for special persons.
This includes ensuring accessibility in all buildings and public places. He also stated that such directives had also been given in a previous cabinet meeting and were now being followed up on.
Owners of buildings with no disability access will be fined. Despite some progress related to the issue in the past, most of the new roads and pavements built do not have cuts and ramps to accommodate wheelchairs. Chaudhry encouraged citizens to bring to notice such issues on the Pakistan Citizens Portal, so that these could be resolved in the best way possible.
