Addressing the groundbreaking ceremony, the prime minister stated that the Margalla Avenue will ease the traffic load on Murree Road and will also act as a bypass at Bhara Kahu. He lauded the Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) Amer Ali Ahmed for the successful launch of the project.
The prime minister also stated that the completion of the Margalla Avenue project will offer additional protection to the Margalla Hills National Park – as it would divide the park and the CDA land.

Reportedly, the 35-kilometre-long Margalla Avenue (also known as Margalla Highway) was part of Islamabad’s masterplan formulated by a Greek firm in 1960, but couldn’t be constructed. The road will start at GT Road and pass through D-12, Shah Allah Ditta, foothills of Margalla, Constitution Avenue and then move towards Bari Imam and Quaid-i-Azam University. The project is reported to be executed in two phases; with the first phase starting from GT Road to D-12 and the second one from the Constitution Avenue to Bari Imam and Quaid-i-Azam University – before reaching 17-Meel.
