Rawalpindi: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has instructed Rawalpindi Commissioner Saqib Zafar to retrieve all land owned by the state, from encroachers, according to a news source. In this regard, the commissioner is supposed to submit a report to the PM Office in one month.

To retrieve the state land, the commissioner has been directed to mark the boundary of these properties in accordance to their ownership deeds. At the same time, the PM has explicitly mentioned that during this operation, the Rawalpindi Administration must ensure to not mistreat orphans and widows.

The PM Office also directed the commissioner to take legal action and demand compensation from people who sold state land by using fraudulent means. Furthermore, the retrieved land is to be used for initiating social welfare and development projects for the masses.

Sources claim that a survey containing the latest figures on state land retrieved to date, under the tenure of the current government, is already in the making. According to initial findings, the government has already retrieved land measuring several thousands of kanals in Chakri and Kotha Kalan.
However, the official sources have confirmed that state land valuing over PKR 10 bn is still in illegal occupation. In order to retrieve this land, the government is planning to launch a mega crackdown in October.
