Kahuta: On 3rd March 2018, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi performed the groundbreaking opening of the four-lane Rawalpindi-Kahuta Road, according to a news report. This route will provide a direct link for people travelling from Islamabad to Kashmir, and vice versa.
The entire project is expected to complete by May 2019, costing PKR 12.5 billion, and is slated to benefit around two million people commuting between these two areas. In times to come, this will be the shortest route for traffic between Rawalakot, Kotli, and the twin cities; reducing transportation costs, decreasing commute timings, and increasing trade.
The project also includes a four-lane fly over at the Sihala Railway crossing, and two bypasses at Sihala and Kahuta. The existing road comprises of two lanes, making it insufficient to accommodate the ever-growing traffic; this will come as a welcome move.
