Islamabad: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif finally inaugurated the Pak-China Friendship Tunnels, constructed by China over Attabad Lake in Gilgit-Baltistan’s Hunza Valley, on September 14.
The five tunnels are seven kilometres in length and are a part of the 24-kilometre long portion of the Karakoram Highway damaged due to land sliding a few years ago. The construction was a joint collaboration between China Road and Bridge Corporation and the National Highway Authority.
The prime minister said this mega project will not only increase tourist activity in the region but also strengthen ties between Pakistan and China even further.
The tunnels have been completed over a period of three years and two months.
