As per the KCR project details, the 43.13-kilometre-long modern circular railroad is a federally-sponsored project that will be completed in three phases. Once completed, the flagship project will serve a total of 550,000 people on a daily basis. According to sources in Railways, the project will comprise 14.95 kilometres on land while the remaining 28 kilometres of the project will be built on elevated pillars. A total of 24 stations have been included in the project.
The World Bank (WB), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and a French bank have all contributed to KCR’s funding. During his previous visit to Karachi in August, Minister for Planning, Development & Special Initiatives Asad Umer instructed the authorities to make all necessary preparations for KCR’s groundbreaking in the second week of September.
