Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Thursday stated that all economic indicators were seen to show growth trend which necessitated the promotion and improvement of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the country, according to news sources.

He further stated that SMEs were an essential part of the national economy and their promotion would stabilise economic indicators and boost employment opportunities. He directed the concerned officials to complete the targets set for SMEs promotion at the earliest.
He made these remarks while chairing a meeting of the National Coordination Committee for Small and Medium Enterprises. The PM was briefed that all stakeholders were being contacted for the provision of financial assistance to SMEs. An SME fund was also said to be in the works. Furthermore, it was revealed that targets have been set for fast resolution of administrative, legal and regulatory issues being faced by the industries.

In addition, the meeting was told that tax form was being simplified and work on the registration portal for small and medium business class was in the works. It was also revealed that SMEDA was being reorganized to increase its capacity to facilitate business community and new working groups at provincial levels were being established for the same purpose.
