Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Thursday directed the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to automate its tax collection, refund, and fixation processes, a news source reported. The PM gave the aforementioned instructions while chairing a meeting to review the reforms currently being undertaken within the tax authority.

For the purpose of automating the tax collection and refund processes, the PM asked the FBR to focus on simplifying the tax forms pertaining to individuals and companies. He directed the board to particularly assist small & medium enterprises (SMEs) on this issue. He added that promoting tax culture, addressing the concerns of the business community, facilitating the taxpayers, and removing corrupt elements from within the FBR were among the incumbent government’s priorities.

PM Khan additionally ordered the FBR to set timelines for completing the ongoing reforms process, along with preparing a progress report regularly. He also directed the board’s chairman to take effective measures for monitoring crossing points at borders to curb smuggling.
