Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Monday (February 14) announced the upcoming decade the ‘Decade of Dams’, news sources reported. Pakistan will develop more than ten dams as part of the plan.

According to reports, during an event on water security and development in Islamabad, the premier stated that the construction of huge hydroelectric dams would assist lessen the country’s energy issue while simultaneously improving the country’s water security. He stated that large water storage projects such as the ‘Kalabagh Dam’ are critical in easing the country’s water scarcity issues. He stated that the project would be launched in consultation with the Sindh province once their issues and reservations about the project have been addressed. On the occasion, the premier also emphasised that the water held in the dams would be used for the country’s agricultural and domestic requirements, as the population is rapidly expanding.

On the occasion, Michael Rogers, President of the International Commission on Large Dams, stated that the ten dams project is an unprecedented move in the right direction. He also praised the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) for constructing the Diamer-Bhasha Dam. He stated that the organisation will offer all technical assistance necessary to achieve the aim.
