Islamabad: The officials concerned on Tuesday revealed that the Prime Minister (PM)’s COVID-19 Relief Fund had so far received up to PKR 13 million in funds via mobile subscribers, a news source reported. In addition, an official of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) stated that the authority had sent more than 142 million public awareness text messages to encourage donations.

The PTA officials further informed that the authority itself had also contributed to the PM COVID-19 Relief Fund — with the PTA chairman and other high officials donating two-days’ of salary and lower grade employees donating one-day’s salary.
The PTA has also been helping raise awareness about TeleSchool, which is the first-ever education channel for students in the country. The project is a collaboration between Pakistan Television (PTV) and the Ministry of Education. According to the details available, the PTA sent out more than 93 million text messages to promote this project.

Reportedly, the PTA is also supporting additional e-education and distance learning programmes and have been supporting the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Commission (HEC) in this regard.
