Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi administration has started preparations for laying foundations of four mega projects for the city in December, news sources reported on Monday (November 29).

Reportedly, Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan will launch three of the four projects, while Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Usman Buzdar will inaugurate the remaining one. According to sources, the prime minister is expected to inaugurate three projects on December 25, including the development of the 38-kilometre-long Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) and the 17-kilometre-long Nullah Leh Expressway project. These two projects would cost PKR 130 billion. The premier will also lay the groundwork for the Asian Development Bank (ADB)-funded 20-kilometre underground sewage pipeline.

Similarly, CM Buzdar will lay the groundwork for a 123-kilometre-long tourism expressway, which is anticipated to be completed in 18 months and would cost the exchequer PKR 4.25 billion. In addition, the three road projects will create 300,000 new jobs in Rawalpindi, as will the building of five underpasses and eight bridges. The district government will construct multi-storey high-rise structures as well as road projects that will be used for commercial purposes, creating revenue for the city district administration. Commissioner Rawalpindi Syed Gulzar Hussain Shah has already ordered the preparations for the inaugural celebrations to be completed by December 15.
