Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Tuesday (November 16) has performed the groundbreaking for 128-kilometre-long Lilla-Jhelum dual carriageway project that’s aimed at enhancement of the road infrastructure in the country, according to news sources.

PM Khan, while speaking at the ceremony, stated that the incumbent government is constructing low-cost roads and motorways for road infrastructure development in Pakistan. He added that currently, 3 dams are being developed and 10 new dams will be constructed in the next ten years. The premier went on to say that the government is focusing on enhancing green spaces in the country to mitigate the negative impact of climate change.
Chief Minister (CM) Sardar Usman Buzdar, during his address, disclosed that the four-lane Lilla-Jhelum road will link G.T. Road to Motorway and is expected to be complete in 30 months. It was disclosed that this road project will connect Mandi Bahauddin, Mir Pur, Khushab, and Gujrat regions. The construction of Lilla-Jhelum Road will help promote tourism in the region, create employment opportunities, facilitate commuters, and strengthen economic development.
Moreover, the CM stated that 13 Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) road sector schemes are underway, at the total cost of PKR 82.190 billion. He added that four major roads of 506-kilometre, worth PKR 130 billion, will be developed with Asian Development Bank (ADB) assistance in Punjab. Also, the construction of 204-kilometre long Pir Mahal, Layyah, Chichawatni, Chowk Azam, Taunsa, and Rajana roads will be started soon. ADB will assist in the construction of the 150-kilometre Depalpur-Pakpattan-Vehari Road.

Furthermore, CM Buzdar revealed that the construction of 107-kilometre-long Jhang-Shorkot Road and 75-kilometre road from Hasilpur to Bahawalnagar will be started soon. Sharing more details, it was announced that the work on Multan-Vehari Road and Sargodha-Faislabad Road will commence soon. The chief minister mentioned that work on Sheikhupura-Gujranwala Road is presently underway at a fast pace.
