Karachi: The officials of the five zero-rated export sectors have appealed to Prime Minister Imran Khan to turn down the proposal for removing zero-rated sales tax scheme on the sectors, a news source reported.
They feared that several industries will close down as a result, which will lead to mass unemployment.

The officials were speaking at a press conference in Karachi Press Club (KPC), which was followed by a peaceful protest by owners and workers of the five sectors. The sectors include value-added textile, sports goods, surgical, leather, and carpet manufacturing sectors.
The press conference was led by Jawed Bilwani of the Pakistan Apparel Forum and Zubair Motiwala, the former president of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI). The representatives of all the associations of sectors were also present.
According to the statement issued, the discontinuation of zero-rated status will result in ruin and disaster of export-oriented industries, flight of capital, mass unemployment, and huge foreign exchange losses.
