Rawalpindi: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has given his approval for the signal-free Leh Expressway project, reported a news source. The PM also agreed to the construction of a mother-and-child hospital facility for Rawalpindi District, and sanctioned funds for it.

Reportedly, the prime minister will inaugurate the Leh Expressway project by the end of this month, or the start of April. The federal and Punjab governments will requisition the funds. The project will be managed on private-public-partnership.

Furthermore, the Frontier Work Organisation will construct the signal-free expressway, while Rawalpindi Development Authority will be its executive body.

Leh Expressway Focal Person Sheikh Rasheed, who is also Federal Minster for Pakistan Railways, said that the land-acquisition process will start in a couple of weeks. He also mentioned that the project has been expanded; it will connect Sawan Adda with I J Principal Road and Peshawar Morr.

Rasheed also mentioned that motorists from other cities, and those heading to the Islamabad International Airport, will use this expressway.
Leh Expressway will keep Rawalpindi safe from floods and fix traffic issues.
