Quetta: Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved a ship-breaking yard for Gwadar, a news report quoted an announcement from a high-level meeting in regards to the issue. The meeting was chaired by Balochistan Chief Minister (CM) Jam Kamal Khan, while Finance Minister Asad Umar and Federal Minister for Defence Production Zubaida Jalal were also in attendance. It was announced that a policy board has been formed, which will also include the CM as a member.

The PC-1 for the project had been finalised in 2007 but failed to proceed due to disinterest from previous governments. The PM has now not only approved the project but it comes with partnership basis of induction of manufacturing, parking stations, and even training workshops.
During the meeting, CM appreciated the initiative and stated that the government will encourage projects that help the province’s citizens. The ship-breaking yard project will not only meet the shipping needs of the country but create jobs for local people. The meeting proceeded to discuss the project’s completion and land allocation.

Umar added that all decisions related to Balochistan and Gwadar will be taken in collaboration with the provincial government. The foundation for the project is to expected to be laid in the coming months by the PM. The training institute will offer ship-breaking expertise for Balochistan students, so they can get jobs at the yard.
