Islamabad: Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Monday approved a relief package worth billions of rupees aimed at assisting the under-privileged communities in the country that have been adversely affected by the ongoing coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, according to news sources.

The package was approved by the PM during a high-level meeting at his office and all important state officials were in attendance. The meeting discussed the overall economic situation in the country and the impact of the coronavirus disease outbreak.

The source reported that the monthly stipend offered under the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) has been increased from PKR 2,000 to PKR 3,000. It was also decided that the government would be disbursing the funds allocated under its Ehsaas initiative by using the data collected by the BISP. In addition to this amount, the number of beneficiaries has also been increased under the PM’s relief package.
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said that this new relief package would assist the low-income groups by providing financial assistance under the Ehsaas initiative during these times of coronavirus disease.
