Islamabad: Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Governor Raja Jalal Hussain Maqpoon on Sunday revealed that Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan would announce a number of mega-development packages for the administrative region during his visit this month, a news source reported. He also made note of the government’s ongoing consideration towards granting the region with formal provincial status.

Reportedly, the PM’s visit is scheduled for the first week of October, however the exact date has not been shared. In addition to this, the premier would also inaugurate various medical and engineering colleges. The government is also likely to announce the construction of rest houses at 70 locations already marked in the region, under the packages.

Moreover, the governor highlighted that the government had also initially intended to grant a provisional provincial status to the region through constitutional amendments but the opposition wished to do so following consultations with the newly-elected GB assembly – after concluding its elections of November 15.
