Muzaffarabad: Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister (PM) Sardar Abdul Qayyum Niazi on Tuesday (March 08) – in a review meeting of AJK industries department – directed the participants to come up with a new comprehensive strategy to promote industrialisation, news sources reported. He stated that the government is committed to the growth of the industry for the creation of employment opportunities.

AJK PM approved four development projects during a cabinet meeting, the most important of which was the establishment of a special economic zone (SEZ) in Mirpur at a cost of PKR 2.24 billion. He also directed the cabinet members to develop viable strategies for the industrialization of the six industrial estates and the upcoming special economic zone.

Moreover, he stated that it is necessary to highlight the government’s tax exemption policy in order to attract more investment in the region. In addition to the orders for the industrial strategy, the cabinet reviewed the previous six months’ progress and approved the following funds:
- PKR 125 million for development works in the industrial estates of Kotli, Rawalakot, Dadyal, Bhimber, and Muzaffarabad
- PKR 65 million for the abolition of child labour
- PKR 25 million would be spent to promote and develop small businesses
- PKR 65 million for child labour surveys in Muzaffarabad and Mirpur with the aid of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF)
