Islamabad: Naya Pakistan Housing Authority (NPHA) Chairman Lt-Gen R Anwar Ali Haider recently briefed Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan and his economic team about the measures being taken for the promotion of the construction sector and the Naya Pakistan Housing Programme (NPHP) – a news source reported.

The NPHA Chairman also informed the committee about the headway made in making use of land belonging to various government departments for the construction of houses for low-income groups. Further, the meeting was given a briefing on the progress made on the E-payment gateway initiative.
PM Khan also constituted a high-level panel geared to give final shape to proposals for concessions to overseas Pakistanis – in order to increase the country’s inflow of remittances relegated through their efforts.

The panel includes Adviser to the PM on Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, Secretary Finance, Special Assistant to PM Zulfiqar Abbas Bukhari, former Finance Minister Shaukat Tareen, and representatives from the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
The PM constituted the committee during a meeting of the economic team to review related policies and measures.

He remarked that in addition to providing concessions to boost remittances, the banks should also be facilitated to ensure the smooth progression of the entire process. He emphasised that it was the government’s aim to provide maximum legal cover to overseas Pakistanis as well as their hard-earned earnings; in order to encourage them to play their role in the consolidation of the national economy.
