Lahore: The Punjab Land Development Company (PLDC) sought the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) approval for utilising 3,000 kanals of Ashiana Housing Scheme land for the development of affordable houses under the Naya Pakistan Housing Programme (NPHP), according to a news source.

Previously, the Punjab Housing Task Force had suggested to construct low-cost houses on the said land. But the Ashiana Housing Scheme is currently being investigated by the accountability watchdog. The authorities concerned require NAB’s approval to develop the NPHP project on Ashiana’s land.

Once the NAB grants the approval, the land will be transferred to the Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency (PHATA). Furthermore, PHATA will also be tasked with the construction of affordable houses on the said land.

Punjab Minister for Housing and Urban Development Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed recently revealed that PHATA had expressed an interest to allow land transfer so that it could commence with the construction of affordable flats and houses under the NPHP.
