Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) will launch a massive plantation drive following the completion of its ongoing anti-encroachment campaign in the capital city, a news source reported. CDA Chairman and Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Chief Commissioner Amer Ali expressed his view on the matter on Thursday during a meeting.

He said that the civic body was engaged in the process of removing illegal structures in Islamabad. Following the completion of its drive, the CDA would begin its process for the rehabilitation of green belts in the city, he added.
He also revealed that the authority’s efforts for mapping forests in the city were near completion. He stated that the said process would help determine the actual forest area in Islamabad, as well as the number of new saplings required for initiating the plantation drive.

In response, Senator Sitara Ayaz stressed on the need to conserve trees and foliage in order to protect the environment of Islamabad. She added that authorities concerned should collaborate with the national and provincial disaster management bodies on this front.
