Rawalpindi: The Punjab Forest Department (Extension) Rawalpindi Division has started planting trees on barren and uncultivated land under the Ten Billion Tree Tsunami Programme, according to news sources.

District Range Forest Officer of Punjab Forest Department Rawalpindi (Extension)Sher Afzal Raja, on Wednesday, in a ceremony said that the 5,000 Kanal land in Chakwal District has been turned into a dense forest.
Adviser to the Chief Minister Punjab Asif Mehmood and Vice-Chairman Parks and Horticulture Authority Rawalpindi Malik Abid Hussain were also present at the ceremony along with members of Rotary Club International, private landowners, farmers, and students of different schools and colleges.

Sher Afzal Raja told the media that the district office range forest Chakwal will distribute 0.4 million trees to the agricultural community. In addition, he requested that farmers plant trees in their barren areas through afforestation. He stated that the forest agency will offer trees for PKR 2 for each sapling. He also stated that department-owned property will be converted into forests and that efforts will be taken to safeguard the current forest.
