Peshawar: There are plans under consideration to convert waste to energy and fertiliser in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), according to a news source. In this regard, the municipal authorities and the Ministry of Power and Energy have made an agreement, and are formulating a plan.
These measures are to be taken in coordination with the private sector, with a public-private partnership model utilised. A meeting was held for this purpose with representatives from the municipal authorities, relevant ministries, and the private sector. These representatives were thoroughly briefed about the conversion of waste to energy and fertiliser.
They were told that the type and quality of waste is an important factor in its effectiveness as a power source. It will take some time before quality control and collection is at a satisfactory level. A survey has been conducted to gauge the quantity that can be collected for this purpose. This is a positive step towards keeping cities clean and simultaneously contributing energy to the power mix. Agriculture will also benefit from the production of fertiliser from this waste.
