Quetta: Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) Director General (DG) Shazeb Kakar on Friday announced the authority’s decision to not proceed with the development of the proposed Gwadar Island project, according to news sources.
DG Kakar revealed this information during a meeting on the city’s new master plan, during which he stated that there had been several reasons behind the decision to cancel the plan to develop the aforementioned island. The event was held in order to formulate a proposal to boost the city’s strategic importance, and the session was attended by local and foreign investors — with most attendees primarily involved in the real estate sector.

The DG also mentioned that a data centre was being established for the consolidation of land data and digitization of land records. The new master plan is also expected to help safeguard the city from environmental and natural disasters.
In addition, the GDA DG mentioned that the Central Business District (CBD) would be the linchpin of the project and that it would be developed with the help of leading developers. Similarly, people whose land was being utilized for the development of green belts are expected to be offered compensation. He further added that the GDA aimed to fully assist investors, and that the authority was currently formulating a framework to improve the ease of doing business in Gwadar.
