Lahore: Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Vice Chairman (VC) SM Imran has revealed that the planning work for the construction of 150,000 low-cost houses under Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan’s Naya Pakistan Housing Programme (NPHP) is currently underway, a news source reported. He shared this information while briefing the media regarding his meeting with the PM held last week on December 12.

He said that legislation was underway to save agricultural land and green areas in the city’s suburbs, as well as to facilitate the construction of high-rise buildings in order to meet the accommodation needs of the public. He further mention that fast-paced work was underway on the development of low-cost housing projects under NPHP.

Talking about the LDA City project, VC Imran said that LDA City file holders would get possession of their plots within a time frame of one to two years; following which they would be able to commence with the construction work on their properties.

In the meanwhile, development work at the project site is underway to deliver the project on time, he added. He further reaffirmed that the society would feature low-cost apartment units planned under the NPHP project.

Talking about the means to increase economic activity in the city, VC Imran said that new land-use rules and a commercialization policy had been formed for this purpose. He mentioned that amendments in building bylaws was among measures introduced to promote the construction of high-rise buildings in Lahore.
