Islamabad: The Ministry of Planning & Development on Wednesday proposed the release of PKR 2.45 billion to see to the operation of phase-1 of the 10 Billion Tree Tsunami project, a news source reported. This figure represents 50% of the total allocation of funds for the project under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2020-21.

The ministry revealed that the total approved cost of the 10 Billion Tree Tsunami project stood at PKR 125.184 billion. The aim of the project is to plan trees across the country with the help of the Ministry of Climate Change.
Sources said that so far, the Climate Change Ministry has helped cultivate, plant, and regenerate 280 million plants in different areas of the country. The project has also provided employment to over 83,000 daily wage workers.

Reportedly, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government had launched the project in 2014 — with the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) approving the venture on August 28, 2019.
