Islamabad: The Planning Minister Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar has said that the government is committed to developing a systematic and cost-effective energy sector, a news source reported. He was chairing the 2nd meeting of the steering committee on Integrated Energy Planning for Sustainable Development.
On the occasion, he informed that efforts were being made to provide affordable energy to the masses. A robust energy policy is also being formulated for sustained economic growth.
The minister said that the government is working on devising a renewable energy policy in order to tap the country’s indigenous resources. He also noted that the cost of renewable energy technologies have decreased, recently. He added that the government will encourage competitive bidding for tariff determination for future renewable energy projects bringing down the energy cost.
The government will prioritise the energy infrastructure needed in the next Public Sector Development Programme to bridge the gap between transmission and distribution supply chain.
