Islamabad: The Planning Commission is all set to install five Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) in different areas of the capital by the end of this month, as per a news source. The Chief Monitoring Officer Metropolitan Corporation of Islamabad (MCI) Syed Najaf Alam said that these plants will be installed at catchment areas of Bari Imam, Lower and Upper Shahdra and Simly Dam.
The idea of STPs had been floated by the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Administration and Cabinet Division in 2012 and is directed towards stopping the flow of sewage in the streams of Murree and Korang River, which ultimately contaminates Rawal Lake.
Najaf said that PKR 3.69 million has been released for PC-1 and is now just awaiting final approval from the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) after clearance from the Planning Commission.
