Islamabad: The signal-free Islamabad Expressway should be funded by the federal government, the Planning Commission has recommended, a news source reported. It has been decided that the commission will place the project before the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) funding.
The project worth PKR 10 billion has been not allotted funds in the mini budget which had put its completion in a doubt. The Capital Development Authority (CDA) had been asked to execute the project on its own funds but the agency has been unable to start the project by itself and had previously announced that CDA will request the government for funds.
If approved by ECNEC, the project will be funded by PSDP during the next fiscal year. CDA will also form a uniform policy applicable to all the housing societies along the Expressway and there will be a policy on coherence in design of interchanges all along the corridor.
