Mansehra: The forestry department has finalised the plan to revive the historic Monroe hiking trail in Mansehra in a bid to boost ecotourism in the region, according to a news story published in the national dailies on July 10.

The 64-kilometre-long Monroe hiking trail was built by the British government and was abandoned after 1947. However, the people of Kaghan and Siran Valleys still use the trail. A resident of the Siran valley, Mohammad Asim, shared that the residents and people in surrounding areas use the trail during summers for travelling on foot, ponies, or horses.

Moreover, Siran Valley Divisional Forest Officer Mudassir Hasan is heading the Monroe trail revival project. He went on to say that the trail is being revived under the Environmental Tourism Initiative. He went on to say that the forestry department has established a prefabricated tentage village in Siran Valley on the Kaghan valley route from Kund Medan village. It was disclosed that the tentage villages will be available for lease to the locals. Hence, this initiative will promote tourism along with creating employment opportunities for the people.
