Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has prepared a plan to link its Automation Programme with the National Database & Registration Authority (NADRA), a news source reported. This programme is meant to help the FBR access data regarding the local and offshore assets purchased by Pakistanis.

In this regard, the FBR is expected to hold a meeting with NADRA officials today. Under the FBR Automation Programme, the Computerised National Identity Card No. will be changed to the National Tax No. Provided that NADRA agrees to share the data, the Automation Programme will allow the FBR to keep track of all transactions carried out by Pakistanis.

Reportedly, the board is looking to gain access to the NADRA database free of cost, while the officials in the registration authority wish to share only a limited amount of this information by imposing service charges on such requests.
As per officials, if things work out in the way that the FBR has planned, the board will be able to issue tax notices of its own accord. The primary aim of this data-sharing effort, as communicated, is to enhance the FBR’s tax net.
