Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister (CM) Mehmood Khan on Monday (September 26) said the government is working on a comprehensive plan to revive and modernize industrialisation in the province, news sources reported.

He said the government is working on a multidimensional model to revive old industries and bring new technologies. In this regard, the government has planned new economic and industrial zones that will diversify the provincial economic outlook and create more jobs.
In this regard, the KP administration has devised the Industrial Policy 2020, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Commerce and Trade Plan 2020, and the investment promotion plan, all of which were designed to expand the industrial sector in accordance with current demands.

Furthermore, the government has invested PKR 338 billion in existing and new economic zones, reviving 167 ailing industrial units and establishing 366 new industrial units. The statement further said that the government has launched Jalozai Economic Zone (SEZ), Nowshera Economic Zone (Extension), and others in Dera Ismail Khan, Rashakia, Chitral, Hattar, Bannu, Ghazi and Mohmand. During the last four years, it is planning to launch Daraband Special Economic Zone, Salt and Gypsum City Karak, Buner Economic Zone, Katlang Economic Zone and Mansehra Economic Zone in near future.

It is essential to note that after Balochistan, KP is one of the important provinces with the largest infrastructure-related projects under the China-Pakistan-Economic-Corridor (CPEC). The province is attempting to diversify its economy away from tourism, which is now the primary source of income for millions of people.
