Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has prepared a comprehensive plan to deal with the city’s longstanding traffic concerns, according to a news source. Under this framework, several of the city’s major road avenues will be converted into one-way thoroughfares.

As per details, major stakeholders including several trade unions, the Metropolitan Corporation Rawalpindi, the City Traffic Police, and the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce (RCCI) have agreed on the plan. Moreover, the RDA is getting other stakeholders on board to implement the new plan.

The RDA has devised its road conversion plan for the following markets:
- Raja Bazar
- Kallan Bazar
- Dingi Khoi Chowk
- Naswari Bazar
- Talwaran Bazar
- Sootar Gali
- Bohar Bazar
- Mochi Bazar
- Bara Bazar Chowk
- Urdu Bazar
- Purana Qila
- Fawara Chowk
In addition to blocking these roads for two-way traffic, the RDA will also demolish illegal structures built outside all shops across the city. The chunks of land thus evacuated will instead be used as parking spaces. In addition, a dedicated parking area will be allocated for these bazars.

The mega plan also suggest to allocate numbers to and register push carts in the commercial areas. Furthermore, movement of these carts will be restricted by allocating a fix space for the respective cart owners. Similarly, the RDA will also appoint additional traffic wardens to ensure that traffic flow does not disrupt.

The date on implementation of the new traffic plan will be announced after the RDA gets a go-ahead from all stakeholders.
