Karachi: Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah has approved the establishment of Thar Foundation as a means of developing the social sector in the area, according to a news report. This decision was announced during a review of Thar coal projects, attended by Chief Secretary Rizwan Memon and various other dignitaries.
Shah highlighted how over the years Thar has emerged as the most impoverished areas of Pakistan, and now requires various socio-economic reforms. He highlighted the importance of Thar Block-II as the best option for future baseload power plants. The price of Thar coal has increased by 3.58%, while prices for imported fuels have gone up by 65%, thus making Thar coal an ideal source of energy. The new plan involves a grant of PKR 900 million to Thar Foundation, royalty for which will be allocated for the social uplift of the people of Thar.
