Lahore: A report submitted by the Judicial Water Commission has revealed that PKR 840 million have been collected from private housing schemes in the city for extracting underground water without authorisation — a news source reported on September 10.

According to the details available, the report was presented before the Lahore High Court (LHC) during a hearing on a case related to water issues in the province. In this regard, the court expressed its satisfaction with the work done by Judicial Water Commission Chairman Chief Justice (retd) Ali Akbar Qureshi in preparing the aforementioned report — with the documents having been submitted by Judicial Water Commission Focal Person Syed Kamal Haider.
On the occasion, it was further revealed that a number of recycling plants had been installed at various service stations in the city. In addition, 509 industrial units had also been sent final notices, asking them to stop releasing pollutants into the rivers and canals of Lahore.

The High Court also took the opportunity to direct all the government departments concerned to make every possible effort to provide assistance to the commission.
