Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has approved PKR 700 million to upgrade sports complexes in four districts, a news source reported. The directives for upgrading sports facilities in DI Khan, Mardan, Haripur and Bannu came from Senior Provincial Minister Atif Khan.

The Minister stated that sports complexes situated in these districts will be renovated. He further added that construction of new sports stadiums in every tehsil and renovation of existing sports venues in districts was part of the government’s election manifesto. The agenda included encouraging the youth to take part in positive activities through sports. Secretary Sports Shahid Zaman and Additional Secretary Babar Khan have been directed to improve the existing sports facilities in the four districts.

A hostel for athletes, renovation of cricket ground, and courts for basketball, volleyball, and badminton have also been ordered for construction. The Minister has significantly called for revamping of the taekwondo hall in Mardan Sports Complex.
Resources will be provided by provincial government to build a sports complex in DI Khan, which will feature a swimming pool and grounds for hockey and football. Meanwhile, squash and tennis courts will be added to the existing sports complexes in Haripur and Bannu.
