Gujranwala: The Excise & Taxation (E&T) Department Gujranwala has decided to recover PKR 60 million in luxury taxes from hundreds of large houses throughout the Gujranwala division, a news source reported. Notices have been issued on the directions of E&T Director.
According to details, in the Budget 2016-17, DHA Gujranwala Phase I and Phase II, Askari I and Askari II, DC Colony, Bank Colony, and its surrounding market area located in Gujranwala Cantonment Board limits, along with Quaid-e-Azam Road, its link roads and properties located in the vicinity of Aziz Shaheed Road, had been designated as Category-A by the Punjab Government.
Similarly, in the Budget 2017-18, Wapda Town and large houses in several other areas had also been included in the Category-A.
Lifetime luxury tax of PKR 500,000 has been applied on houses sized 1,000 sq. ft. to 2,000 sq. ft.; PKR 1 million tax was applied on houses between 2,000 sq. ft., and 4,000 sq. ft., and owners of houses larger than that had to pay a luxury tax of PKR 1.5 million.
The recovery of luxury tax in 2015-16 was PKR 9 million; no recovery was made in 2016-17 due to injunctive orders by court; and, in 2017-18, the recovery was still low at PKR 18.5 million. Now, the E&T department has decided to recover all the dues.
