Lahore: The provincial planning and development department is seeking development funds worth PKR 50 billion from the finance department, a news source reported. A summary in this regard has been forwarded to the officials concerned.
The funds would be utilised for ongoing development projects – including construction of sports complexes, maintenance of roads, water development schemes, and upgradation of parks and hospitals.
The Punjab Government is also drafting a master water plan that includes the regulation of abstraction of water and disposal of waste water in urban and rural areas. Backed by legal cover, the plan suggests appointment of undertakers for water and sewage services.
According to the draft document, various sub-sectors – including domestic, agricultural, industrial and ecological – will be allocated a certain share of commodity, with a regulatory body overseeing performance of the entities involved.
It has suggested setting up a Water Resources Commission under the Irrigation Department, Water Services Regulatory Authority under the Housing and Public Health Department (HPHD) and undertakers under the joint control of respective local government and HPHD.
