Islamabad: The Ministry of Planning, Development and Reform has released PKR 4.73 billion for the construction of Diamer-Bhasha Dam, a news source reported. The multipurpose dam is expected to be completed at a cost of PKR 474 billion.

According to the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), construction work on Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand Dams will begin in the first and second quarters of 2019. The bigger Diamer-Bhasha Dam will take nine years, whereas Mohmand Dam would take six years to complete.

As per financial plans shared by WAPDA, the federal government will allocate PKR 30 billion to PKR 35 billion annually to fund the construction of the two dams. The estimate cost of the two mega projects is PKR 1,809 billion.
Prime Minister Imran Khan will inaugurate construction work at the site of Mohmand Dam in the first week of January 2019. The dam is expected to be completed at a cost of PKR 315 billion.
