Lahore: For replacing the decades-old sewerage system in Lahore, the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has prepared a plan worth PKR 31 billion, according to a news source. As per officials, WASA has received conditional approval from the Lahore Development Authority for commencing with the development of the initiative.

According to details, LDA Managing Director Syed Zahid Aziz has forwarded the draft to the LDA Governing Body for its approval. The working papers contains estimated cost of PKR 4.76 billion required for laying new sewerage lines in Gulberg and its adjoining areas – in the project’s phase I.

The replacement of old sewerage lines in Garden Town and Faisal Town is estimated to cost PKR 2.95 billion. For the sewerage project planned along the road linking Jinnah Hospital with Thokar along Canal Road, the cost is estimated at PKR 1.86 billion. The working papers also contain details on funds required for sewerage projects meant for Allama Iqbal Town and Ferozepur Road.

As per reports, the LDA Governing Body has granted its approval for the project to be initiated under the first phase, where WASA will start work on replacing sewerage lines in Gulberg and Canal Road. To develop these two projects, WASA will seek funds from international donor agencies.
