Multan: The Punjab Archaeology Department has dispatched a PKR 30 million proposal to the authorities concerned for the conservation and restoration work of the Sufi saint Hazrat Shah Ali Akbar’s mausoleum in Suraj Miani, Multan–a news source reported.
Archaeology Department Multan In-charge Malik Ghulam Muhammad has said that the saint was a descendent of saint Hazrat Shamsuddin Sabzwari, and his mausoleum was built in 1585. The tomb is located at Suraj Miani, Kabuli Mohallah, in Multan’s suburbs.
The tomb of Hazrat Ali Akbar is a smaller version of the tomb of Hazrat Shah Rukn-e-Alam, and shares several architectural features with it; including its octagonal plan and three storeys. Its walls have been decorated with brick designs and intricate tile work.
The interior of the monument has been damaged considerably by the smoke of oil lamps, which has also spoiled the mausoleum’s fresco painting and lime plaster. The damaged glazed tiles and brickwork of the exterior also requires restoration.
