Gujranwala: Each union council will get a grant of PKR 3.5 million, a news source reported. The Punjab Local Government and Community Department has announced this grant for the union councils.

The announcement came as the Gujranwala Municipal Corporation Mayor Sheikh Sarwat Akram met with the Union Council (UC) chairmen. The mayor told that the corporation had been facing problems due to a lack of funds.
He further stated that the Punjab local government department has taken notice of the problems, and granted the said funds for each union council in the city.
It was revealed that this grant money will be spend on the construction of streets and drains, along with the installation of street lights. PKR 3 million of the grants has been allocated for construction of streets and drains. Meanwhile, PKR 500,000 will be spend on street lights.

The meeting also decided to pass the resolution of shifting the Gujranwala Waste Management Company (GWMC). It will move its offices from Trust Plaza to the office of the Municipal Corporation. This shift will help save PKR 1.8 million annually.
