Lahore: Social Welfare and Bait-ul-Maal (SW&BM) is seeking PKR 153 million from the Punjab government for the construction of shelter homes in Lahore, a news source reported. The Lahore Development Authority (LDA), has been tasked to carry out the construction work near Data Darbar Chowk, Badami Bagh (two shelter homes), Railway Station, and Shahdara Chowk.
LDA has already started constructing a shelter home near Railway Station and the stipulated month for the completion is June 2019. The shelter homes will accommodate as many as 730 people, including 115 females and 615 males, while the food will be arranged by the Auqaf Department.
Concerned officials have forwarded a summary to the provincial cabinet requesting allocation of PKR 153.727 million from supplementary grant for the project as it is not included in the Annual Development Programme (ADP) 2018-19.
Last week, a delegation of notables from Lahore called on Prime Minister Imran Khan and pledged to fund the pilot project of five shelter homes announced by Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar.
The delegation said they would also fund five shelter homes in addition to the existing announced by the government. They also briefed the prime minister on five government-run hospitals being operated in collaboration with the Indus Health Network, which has also provided PKR 15 billion for the construction of a 600-bed state-of-the-art hospital in Lahore.
Prime Minister Imran Khan on his part lauded the social welfare activities of Indus Welfare Network, Sheikh Ijaz Ahmed Trust, Naimat Saleem, Ghani Foundation, and other notables.
