Karachi: The district authorities are seeking PKR 145 million from the Sindh Government for as many as 29 safe houses for women in the province, a news source reported. A summary to this effect has been forwarded to Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.
An official of the Social Welfare Department told the Sindh High Court (SHC) that the authorities concerned have established safe houses for women in all 29 districts of Sindh, and funds have been sought from the provincial government in order to make them fully functional. Each safe house will get an annual grant of PKR 5 million.
The court also directed the chief secretary and secretary social welfare to ask the commissioners and DIGs of respective divisions to visit safe houses and submit a report within a month. SHC had earlier directed the provincial authorities to ensure smooth functioning of safe houses and rescue centres for women.
