Lahore: The Government of Punjab has approved funds worth PKR 14.16 billion for a sewerage project meant exclusively for improving the underground sewerage network in the area connecting Laurex Colony with Gulshan-e-Ravi, a news source reported.

The provincial government approved the funds during the third session of the Punjab Development Working Party (PDWP) meeting. Punjab Planning and Development Department Chairman Habeeb-ur-Rehman Gilani presided over this meeting.
As per the given details, the sewerage project for Laurex Colony and Gulshan-e-Ravi will help drain rainwater in central and commercially important areas of Lahore, including Gulberg, Zafar Ali Road, Shadman, Shah Jamal, and Dharampura.

Under this project, the government plans to lay a 28-kilometre long sewerage line via tunnel boring. For this purpose, the provincial government might also purchase machinery.
Reportedly, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) of China is also interested in financing the project. The bank has offered loans worth PKR 15 billion.

In the same meeting, the Punjab Government also approved funds for two other projects;
- PKR 440.31 million for the construction and rehabilitation of Rawalpindi’s flyover connecting Airport Road with Rahimabad Flyover via Dry Port Road
- PKR 500 million for conducting a feasibility study for setting up power plants in areas known best for agricultural yield
