Faisalabad: Water and Sanitation Authority (WASA) has approved loan agreement worth PKR 14 billion with a French development bank for the second of mega water supply project, reported a news source. The credit facility agreement in this regard will be signed between Economic Affair Division and Agence Française de Développement soon.

Sharing details on the development, WASA Managing Director (MD) Faqeer Muhammad Chaudhary said phase I of Mega Water Supply Project has already been completed in record time. He also appreciated the aid extended by France to supply drinking water for the people of Faisalabad.
The French team engaged for the project is looking to complete the project’s second phase in the committed timeframe. WASA MD also mentioned that the authority has increased water supply to citizens of Faisalabad from 60 million gallon to 110 million gallon in the last five years. The city, however, still suffers from a shortfall of 50 million gallons.

The MD said that the WASA will continue to work on projects meant for meeting water requirements in the city. Once completed, the Mega Water Supply Project Phase II will help reduce the shortfall further.
According to MD Chaudhary, as soon as the federal government approves the project, WASA will initiate the tendering process. The Mega Water Supply Project Phase II will benefit 700,000 people in Faisalabad.
