Gujrat: The Punjab government has allocated funds worth PKR 1 billion for reconstructing the 14-kilometre-long Gujrat-Jalalpur Jattan Road, a news source quoted Member National Assembly (MNA) Chaudhary Hussain Elahi as saying. He said that the executive has also approved the establishment of a Rescue 1122 office Jalalpur Jattan.

According to Gujrat Deputy Commissioner Dr Khurram Shahzad, the provincial government allocated funds for this project under its budget for the (fiscal year) FY2019-20. This initiative will be completed on a public-private partnership model, for which the officials concerned would flood tenders soon, he added.

He said that the government might allow the successful bidder to collect toll tax from the motorists on this road for a specific timeframe. The said road will transformed into a dual-carriageway featuring 24ft wide tracks.
The concerned authorities have yet to decide on the executing authority. As per reports, either the provincial highway department or the National Highway Authority (NHA) would take up the project.

Previously, the residents of the area had requested the authorities concerned to rehabilitate the road in order to improve the traffic flow, and to control the number of accidents.
