Gujrat: The Government of Punjab has allocated PKR 1.62 billion for as many as 117 uplift schemes in Gujrat, a news source reported. It has also released the first instalment of the said amount.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr Khurram Shahzad said the government had allocated PKR 522 million for 34 schemes of the highways department, PKR 128.5 million for 20 schemes of the public health and engineering department, PKR 65 million for 27 schemes of the building department, PKR 12 million for the local government and community development, and PKR 8 million for the school education and sports departments.
Separately, the district administration has identified 26 major roads in three tehsils for cleanliness and beautification under a public-private partnership initiative referred to as ‘Khubsoorat Gujrat – Adopt a Road Initiative’.
DC Shahzad inaugurated the project at Sain Raja railway crossing along GT Road. Departments concerned, including Gujrat District Council and Municipal Corporation, will join the local business community to beautify the roads.
DC Shahzad said that 26 roads, including 20 in Gujrat tehsil, and three each in Kharian and Sarai Alamgir tehsils, had been identified under the initiative and grouped into 10 packages. A group of officers would be tasked to administer the cleanliness and maintenance project.
